The Connection Between Sustainability and Class in Fashion: Why It Matters

Fast Fashion produces 92 million tons of textile waste per year. Fast fashion companies are constantly producing garments to keep up with trends and consumers. However, we as consumers need to shift the mindset. Being a consumers and young college student means following trends and most often falling for fads. Whats a fad? A fad is short wave trend and tends to be referred to as a micro-trend. While micro-trends are trending and keeping up with the times it cans sometimes lead to an outfit looking a little too much. Fashion is all about self expression and if following a micro-trend is how you express yourself thats okay; however, keeping up with fads doesn't mean having to shop fast fashion.

Fashion is always moving in new directions and is circular. Trends circulate at a high rate which means finding the micro-trend you love at the thrift store is easy (and even easier to find at Faded Lace). Shopping second hand also lets you find pieces that are timeless and withstand trends. You may tend to feel tired of your clothes after a while- I know I do- and finding clothes that aren't especially trendy but still cute can stop burnout.

If you have fallen victim to fast fashion, as we all have, there are ways to save clothes that have passed in trend. Upcycling and donating are a great way to let your clothes have a second life instead of adding on to the textile waste. Upcycled clothes are such an amazing way to add a little personal touch to any garment and make it custom. An upcycled garment is unique and can add a lot to your closet.

Faded Lace has your back when it comes to being sustainable, if your'e not sure how to be or if  you just want to lean into it more, we got you. Check out more ways to be sustainable on our website and hang up on fast fashion and dial in on sustainability.
